The best way to know if you have bed bugs is to find the evidence. To do this you will need a good light your phone light or flashlight will do you will also need to be able to move and flip furniture. Evidence of bed bugs is visible to the naked eye if you find their favorite hiding spaces. They are typically not out in the open during light hours of the day and infest in less visible areas.

- Producing a specimen aka if you find one. Finding even one bed bug lends the situation to being treated professionally. For every bug found there are typically 10-100 bugs unseen. The bugs are dark brown (blackish), or amber colored. Sometimes the blood is visible in the body of the bug and some of the younger bugs might have a translucence about them. The bugs are oblong and come to a point at one end similar to an apple seed.
- Another sign of infestation is Bites and bite marks. Typically you will experience similar reaction as to mosquito bites.
- It is important to note that Reaction to bed bug bites varies greatly from large itchy irritating welts to having zero symptoms absolutely no sign of bites. This can allow the problem to get out of hand without knowing it.
- Other evidence includes eggs, Fecal stains, exoskeletons, blood marks from bugs getting squashed inadvertently. Eggs are smaller then the ball of a ball point pen. They are rice shape and color but slightly see through. The dark brown fecal matter looks a bit different on different surfaces. They may be small pellet of poop on glass medal or plastic. On wood it looks similar to wood stain drops dabbed in little places. Base boards can be blacked by fecal matter.
- Signs will be in furniture, beds, bed frames, floors, cracks, drawers, and couches. If long term problem has persisted or improper treatment was implimented bugs may be in the walls of the home.
