A Bed Bug Heat Treatment isn't cheap but is worth being finally rid of those blood sucking pests. The answer is it Depends. If the bugs are physically in 2 or more areas of the home (not where you think they are, e.g. "their only in one room"), then the answer is: Now is the time to bring the heat. Each of the treatment types listed has pros and cons and varied cost levels. 
DIY Do-It-Yourself bed bug treatments can range from zero dollars to a few hundred dollars all on a gamble that the bugs will be gone. We have known many people who have easily spent hundreds to thousands of dollars only to discover............ "their back"! Due to the above list of bed bug traits these do-it-yourself treatments may disrupt the bugs for a time but have little effect on them in the long term. Spot Heat and Spot Freeze are virtually the same  in effectiveness with Freeze beating out spot heat in safety. The Cryonite freezing is a bit safer for belongings. Again this is more locational so if living bugs are walking around the home and left alive they will mate and re-infest. Hotels with bed bug monitors often hire these forms of treatment because problems are discovered early, having known areas, and are small in scope. Treatments range from $65-$500
Gas and Fumigation are typically used when a higher success rate is needed for eradication. Though the success rate is higher then spot heat/freeze and chemical this form of bed bug removal is also not guaranteed.   During this treatment Gas replaces oxygen in the home suffocating the bugs and eggs to death. This is typically a 2-3 day affair. And often costs the same or more than a heat treatment. Note: A misconception is that there is chemical used in the home it is a gas vapor that dissipates upon completion. The pros are you get to keep all your belongings with a high success rate. The cons are, it is not guaranteed, takes 2-3 days to complete and may cost more than heat. There is no residue left in the home with this treatment type. Ranging from $1,200-$8,000 for homes.
Heat Treatments on the entire area are very effective. The structure is safely brought to a high temperature. At a sustained level heat permeates every crack of the home and bugs and eggs are cooked in place. This method is guaranteed by professionals, is typically the same cost or slightly cheeper than a fumigation, it takes   one day to complete, all belongs may be kept, zero fumes, zero odor. Heat and Gas are typically used when a severe infestation has occurred in a large treatable area. The cost and time for this treatment is high and is typically seen as overkill. since the bed bugs will be dead typically by one or the other method. Ranging from $1,400-$8,500

These Bed Bugs were found during one of our routine inspections in Phoenix Arizona and Mesa Arizona. Both were Caught and Killed on the Ceiling. This Brings up the topic of what in the world would a Bed Bug want with the ceiling? To answer this question it's important to know how they locate their host. It's simple, Bed Bugs find their nightly blood meal via heat and Carbon Dioxide. The Ceiling is a natural path to finding your carbon dioxide cloud. Once they are above you they fall from the ceiling to land upon their host and start feeding. This occurs more often when the bed bug nest is not near a place of feeding. Bed Bugs this size also clue us in that these bed bugs have been there a while.

There is a wide range of differences between Bed Bug Treatments and each will vary in it's cost, property loss, and bed bug killing effectiveness. 

The most common but not guaranteed bed bugs treatment is Chemical. Chemical Bed Bug Treatments have the single benefit of being inexpensive per treatment. We do not recommend these. The problem is that it takes multiple treatments and you never no how many, often times 4-8. Bed Bug Eggs are Chemically impenetrable by most treatment products and chemicals. Bed Bugs and their nest oftentimes live deep within a couch or bed mattress making the bugs difficult to reach. The outcome is that the bugs sometimes are not reached by chemical and the eggs are unharmed and continue to hatch. This is why chemical treatments are a gamble if they work then you saved money, if they don't work then you get bit physically and financially and you will need another type of treatment costing more money. Not to mention you will get bit during this 6-14 week process and have heavy chemical sprayed on your bed and home that will soak in and dry for a few hours then you sleep on that. Fumigation Bed Bug Treatments. A Fumigation Bed Bugs Treatment has the same problems as chemical because after-all a heavy chemical in a gaseous state is used in your home. A circus tent is used to drape your house and a gas is filled into the home. Fumes are a bit more effective then a traditional chemical bed bug treatment because fumes penetrate a little bit deeper to kill the bed bugs. The down side is that this is far more expensive, not guaranteed, may take multiple treatments, and not very discreet. We do not recommend a fumigation bed bug treatment.

Steam Bed Bug Treatment. A steam treatment is very effective at killing bed bugs and their eggs BUT only if it can directly contact them. The problem is that the moisture that is left as a residue from this treatment provides an even better mating and breeding ground. Steam doesn't always reach the bugs or eggs and they will continue to hatch. One of the biggest downfalls of Steam is damage and loss to property. The steam is blasted at an extremely high heat and can destroy belongings quickly. Steam Bed Bug Treatments are also not guaranteed and we do not recommend them. Steam treatments should not be attempted without the correct equipment.
